The rear roller on the Toro 4500/4700 rough mower, has been a royal pain in the ass since we found out the original “greaseless” bearings weren’t working out. The replacement used the “small” bearings of a lightweight fairway mower and they weren’t helping much either. It got to the point where I had 4 spares so I could change them out till I had 4 to rebuild at once. Those were such losers I scrapped them all and used plastic rollers. I just left them on till they needed to be replaced again.
It was ridiculous. Then, they came out with this roller. I tried one and was so impressed I bought 4 more. Then we replaced all 12 decks and they came with these rollers so I saved the original 5 (they are still on the shelf). In eight months I’ve only had one off and that was to see why the end nut was backing off..
These rollers are great, so I found out who designed them and emailed them. First I tried out the email address to make sure it was correct and I also asked if he was indeed the designer of this roller. He said yes and yes. And how did I like them? There’s a mystery there right
There are times when you just have to shoot from the hip and give a straight answer. You can’t sugar coat it at all. I told him exactly how I felt about them. ”How’s fucking awesome?”

“Then, they came out with this roller.”
Who is they? Aftermarket or OEM
OH.. Toro. I think all golf techs know what a 4500 is. It’s just the rest of the world..
